Morambro Creek Shiraz 2008

Tasting Notes

Deep inky black & purple in colour. The nose is perfumed with violet, blackberry, vanilla and spice with a touch of earth and liquorice over white pepper in the background. Expansive palate, smooth lush ripe back fruits nicely balanced oak, plenty of concentration with a long finish.

Winemaking Report

Winemaking at Morambro Creek is very traditional and labour intensive. Oak maturation takes place using 35-40% new barrels both French and American. In good cellars, Morambro Creek Shiraz can age for anywhere from 7 to 10 years. This blend was put together using select barrels from our family estate that best demonstrate the intensity of our fruit balanced by integrated oak.

Vintage Conditions

It started out full bore with the usual warm February weather. All our grape varieties started to ripen at the same time making it one of our most compact vintages to date. Vine-balance was carefully monitored, resulting in fruit that demonstrate the vibrancy and fruit-derived characters that we strive for in our wines.

Vineyard Notes

Our rich, fertile terra rosa soils, environmentally friendly viticulture, low yield and exceptional fruit is how we consistently produce outstanding wines. Small parcels of the highest quality fruit are selected from our family vineyard and handcrafted to create wines with amazing depth of flavour, style and balance.

Very nice drinking. The plumrny nose has subtle dusty oak and hints of orange rind and there's soft. Supple, sweet fruit on the palate finishing with a big oaky hit. Very nice drinking. Richard Skinner: This is an enjoyable wine from Padthaway, big in style with good intensity yet soft and balanced. For me, it's crying out to be enjoyed in front of the fire in these colder months. It's brimming with black fruit flavours - licorice and dark chocolate add interest with pepper and spice to round off. It's one of those wine that is sure to disappear pretty quickly.
